Monday at 6:30 PM
We open our concert with Gabriella Smith’s exhilarating and rhythmically propulsive Tumblebird Contrails, inspired by the sights and sounds of Point Reyes Seashore. The luminous Elina Vähälä serenades us with the rich, expansive lyricism of Korngold's Violin Concerto in D Major, written by the exiled Jewish composer in celebration of the end of Nazi reign. Tchaikovsky's dark and foreboding last symphony, premiered only days before his death, aches with anguish in a deeply personal and intimate farewell.
